Garenne Guernsey Achievement Awards 2006

Welcome to the Guernsey Sports Commission

On the 30th January 2008, Beau Sejour Leisure Centre played host to the fourth official Garenne Group Sporting Achievement Awards, an evening which recognised and celebrated the best of our sporting talent in the Island.

A packed David Ferguson Hall was treated to the visit of special guest Steve Smith, the former Great Britain and current record holding High Jumper. who won a bronze medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 

The list of nominees for the various awards was incredibly strong, and points to a very bright future for sport in Guernsey.

Here is a list of the winners of the trophies for 2007:

THE GUERNSEY SPORTS COMMISSION TROPHY

Awarded to the Outstanding Performer of the Year

Winner: Andy Priaulx

THE RICHARD BURTON SALVER

Awarded for the outstanding individual sporting achievement of the year by a sportsman resident in Guernsey.

Winner: Dale Garland 

THE GUERNSEY BREWERY SALVER

Awarded for the outstanding individual sporting achievement of the year by a  sportswoman resident in Guernsey.

Winner: Alison Merrien

LAMBOURNE SHIELD

Awarded for an outstanding individual sporting achievement of the year by a boy or girl aged not less than eleven years and not more than eighteen years of age and is a resident of Guernsey.

Winner is: Heather Watson

GUERNSEY SPORTS COMMISSION DEVELOPMENT TROPHY

Awarded to the person involved in coaching and / or development who makes an outstanding contribution to their sport.

Winner is: David Harry 

GUERNSEY SPORTS COMMISSION LARGE TEAM TROPHY

Awarded for the outstanding team performance of the year by a team comprised solely of Guernsey residents and over 4 competitors.

Winners are: Guernsey Rugby Club First XV

BEAU SEJOUR TROPHY

Awarded for the outstanding team performance of the year by a team comprised solely of Guernsey residents aged less than eighteen years of age. 

Winners are: Guernsey U15's Cricket Team

SIR JOHN LOVERIDGE TROPHY

Awarded for the sportsperson making the greatest progress in the year. There is no age limit but the person will normally be resident in Guernsey and not having won an individual Commission Trophy for the year.

Winner is: James McLaughlin 

THE SPORTS GUERNSEY TROPHY

Awarded to the years outstanding event organiser. This can be an individual, an event team leader, club or association who organised a sporting event in Guernsey in 2006.

Winners: Garry Collins & Peter Bridgeman for Bowls & Squash Alternative Games 

GUERNSEY SPORTS COMMISSION SMALL TEAM TROPHY(4 COMPETITORS AND UNDER)

Awarded for the outstanding team performance of the year to a team containing four or less competitors comprising of solely Guernsey residents.

Winners are: Men's 4 x 400m Relay Team from Rhodes Island Games
