Guernsey Sporting Heroes - Alison Merrien

Alison Merrien has dominated local bowls for a number of years, but her international record has been outstanding. In her short career so far she has already collected numerous World Championships and International titles. Recognised as one of the finest talents in the world, she is the one to beat even at top international events. She is currently ranked 2 in the ladies section.
Alison is recognised as an aggressive bowler who is more at home in the men’s game than the ladies. Despite a fearsome drive, she is also known for a deft touch with inch perfect precision. Her international opponents have great respect for her resilience and her ability to grind out win after win.
She has had many outings at the World Indoor Bowls Council championships. She has been in the pairs final four times with 3 different partners including being a winner twice. Other titles include the British Isles Singles and Pairs championships.
Moving to outdoors she has regularly been Island Champion which gives a place at the world champion of champions. Having been runner up in 2003 she eventually powered her way to the elusive title in 2007.
The pinnacle of her career came in April 2008 when she won the Indoor World Cup beating the world number 1 from New Zealand to take the title. Despite all this, Alison is still young and continues to get stronger each year.
