Jason followed the international squash trail via Kings Club and Nottingham.

His first major achievement on the international scene was as a 14-year-old when he lost in the final of the British Under 14 Championships to Fellow Sarnian Simon Gaudion.

Nicolle’s career went from strength to strength and by 1981 he had won the Guernsey Closed title and having moved to Nottingham reached the semi-finals of the British Under 23 Closed in 1985 and British Under 23 Open in 1986 and 1987.

In 1988 he finally won the British Under 23 title and by the end of that season was ranked eighth nationally and 23rd in the world. His highest world ranking was 14 in 1994, and he rose to number three in the English list the same season.

His Open title successes include the Dutch Open in 1993, Hungarian Open in 1994 and Philadelphia Open in 1996.

Jason represented England in the home internationals and Europeans, winning both at least once, and was a member of both the bronze medal winning World Team Championship squad in 1989, and the one that finished runners-up two years later. He led his team as the England team captain and represented his country 29 times.
