Queen’s Prize winner at Bisley

In July 1975 Charles Trotter caused a huge stir by becoming the first and only Guernseyman in the 20th century to win the Queens Prize at Bisley. In winning the prestigious Gold Medal, Trotter emulated Private Priaulx’s achievement in 1899. Trotter won the medal after winning a record six man shoot out after they all finished on the 284 mark. Three days later he received a hero’s welcome at the St Peter Port jetty, being chaired ashore by fellow GRC members having been greeted by the Bailiff, Sir John Loveridge. His other major achievement was to later win a Commonwealth Games bronze medal.
