The first Guernsey footballer to reach the top in the professional game. Between 1947 and 1957 he made 307 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur and scored 134 goals. A powerful centre forward he was a key member of Tottenhams push and run side playing alongside the likes of Alf Ramsey and Bill Nicholson. They won the League Championship in 1951 having won the second division title the year before and were runners up in 1952. Known as the “Duke” he carried his prolific strike rate into reserve team football where he scored another 133 goals for the North London club including 38 in his last full season in 1957-1958.
